Coolidge, Arizona

Coolidge is a city located in Pinal County, Arizona. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 7,786, an increase of 852 people since the 1990 census.

Coolidge is northwest of Tucson, Arizona, about half-way between Tucson and Phoenix, Arizona, between Casa Grande, Arizona and Florence, Arizona along Highway 87 near the Picacho Reservoir.

Coolidge is home of the Casa Grande Ruins[?] National Monument. The monument was the first historic site protected status by the United States Government in 1892. The ancient city was built about 1200 A.D. by the Hohokam[?] people.

Coolidge was incorporated as a city in 1945. It is named after USA President Calvin Coolidge.

Coolidge is home to the Central Arizona College[?].

Geography Coolidge is located at 32°58'38" North, 111°31'23" West (32.977105, -111.522933)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.0 km² (5.0 mi²). 13.0 km² (5.0 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 7,786 people, 2,585 households, and 1,938 families residing in the city. The population density is 597.7/km² (1,549.1/mi²). There are 3,212 housing units at an average density of 246.6/km² (639.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 57.85% White, 8.30% African American, 5.63% Native American, 0.72% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 23.58% from other races, and 3.88% from two or more races. 39.20% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,585 households out of which 38.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% are married couples living together, 19.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% are non-families. 20.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 3.00 and the average family size is 3.44.

In the city the population is spread out with 32.9% under the age of 18, 10.4% from 18 to 24, 24.4% from 25 to 44, 18.9% from 45 to 64, and 13.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 93.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.1 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $29,049, and the median income for a family is $33,536. Males have a median income of $29,159 versus $21,472 for females. The per capita income for the city is $13,663. 24.7% of the population and 20.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 30.9% are under the age of 18 and 20.5% are 65 or older.
