Songwriters: George Clinton, Grace Cook (aka Eddie Hazel)

Memorable Lyrics:

  • "Ridin' two white horses when she comes/Comin' around the mountain when she comes/Get out on the dancefloor when she comes"

Complete lyrics at the Motherpage (http://www.duke.edu/~tmc/motherpage/lyrics_funkadelic/lyr-jollies#lyr-s-mountain)

It is arguable whether or not the lyrics have any set meaning. The lines quoted above are the only clues given, and they don't seem to have any relevance to anything.

Personnel:

  • Percussion: Buddy Miles
  • Guitar: Officially, Michael Hampton (disputed--may be Eddie Hazel)
    • Michael Hampton is given official credit
    • Songwriting credit is shared between Clinton and "Grace Cook," actually an alias for Eddie Hazel (his mother's name)
    • According to the Motherpage, "That raw edged playing that sounds like two separate guitars is Eddie Hazel in his absolute prime. Unmistakably. Eddie's known for playing a Les Paul (black beauty) and plugging it into a Gibson, Fender or Marshall amplifier that was slightly overdriven. Adding a phaser and an Echoplex was just the finishing touch he'd need whenever he laid tracks in the studio circa 1975-76. By this time he had become a more accomplished and refined player and no longer used the archaic sounding fuzztone devices he preferred in the late 60's and early 70's."
