Geography Colonial Beach is located at 38°15'14" North, 76°58'8" West (38.253840, -76.968941)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.4 km² (2.8 mi²). 6.7 km² (2.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 8.80% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 3,228 people, 1,437 households, and 863 families residing in the town. The population density is 481.2/km² (1,246.7/mi²). There are 2,030 housing units at an average density of 302.6/km² (784.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 79.21% White, 16.95% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.64% from other races, and 1.49% from two or more races. 3.38% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,437 households out of which 24.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.9% are married couples living together, 15.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.9% are non-families. 34.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.77.

In the town the population is spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 23.2% from 25 to 44, 26.0% from 45 to 64, and 22.5% who are 65 years of age or older.
