A small, touristic town, Coamo is known for it's historic downtown area and for it's thermal waters. One of the most famous thermal water spots is located in Coamo: A public thermal waters facility that used to be part of a resort named Haciendas de Coamo. After Haciendas closed down, the thermal waters service became available to the general public.
Coamo is also known as a fishing town, it's proximity to the beach making seafood a favorite dish among people who live there.
Coamo doesn't have a large sports activity program each year: The city's BSN team Maratonistas de Coamo[?] is the only professional team to play there, and they have played in Coamo with mixed success since joining the league in 1985. Another of the few sports activities held in Coamo is the world famous Maraton de San Blas[?], a marathon race that attracts runners from Puerto Rico, Brazil, Kenya, Mexico, Colombia, Uganda and many other countries world-wide each year.
