Clinton County, Pennsylvania

Clinton County is a county located in the U.S. State of Pennsylvania. As of 2000, the population is 37,914. Its name is in honor of the seventh Governor of New York State, DeWitt Clinton. Its county seat is Lock Haven6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,326 km² (898 mi²). 2,307 km² (891 mi²) of it is land and 19 km² (7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.81% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 37,914 people, 14,773 households, and 9,927 families residing in the county. The population density is 16/km² (43/mi²). There are 18,166 housing units at an average density of 8/km² (20/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 98.29% White, 0.52% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.40% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.15% from other races, and 0.52% from two or more races. 0.54% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 14,773 households out of which 27.70% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.00% are married couples living together, 9.40% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.80% are non-families. 26.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.90.

In the county, the population is spread out with 21.50% under the age of 18, 13.60% from 18 to 24, 25.50% from 25 to 44, 22.70% from 45 to 64, and 16.80% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 94.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.20 males.
