Clinton is a city located in Van Buren County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,283. The city is the county seat of Van Buren County6.

Geography Clinton is located at 35°35'11" North, 92°27'28" West (35.586410, -92.457736)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 30.0 km² (11.6 mi²). 29.5 km² (11.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.64% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,283 people, 1,007 households, and 626 families residing in the city. The population density is 77.3/km² (200.3/mi²). There are 1,123 housing units at an average density of 38.0/km² (98.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 95.66% White, 0.09% African American, 0.74% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.31% from other races, and 2.06% from two or more races. 2.67% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,007 households out of which 26.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.7% are married couples living together, 8.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.8% are non-families. 35.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.87.

In the city the population is spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 7.5% from 18 to 24, 23.8% from 25 to 44, 23.6% from 45 to 64, and 22.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 90.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.3 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $22,206, and the median income for a family is $30,792. Males have a median income of $24,750 versus $19,152 for females. The per capita income for the city is $15,514. 17.9% of the population and 15.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 21.7% are under the age of 18 and 16.7% are 65 or older.
