Clark County, Kentucky

Clark County is a county located in the U.S. State of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 33,144. Its county seat is Winchester, Kentucky6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 661 km² (255 mi²). 659 km² (254 mi²) of it is land and 2 km² (1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.33% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 33,144 people, 13,015 households, and 9,553 families residing in the county. The population density is 50/km² (130/mi²). There are 13,749 housing units at an average density of 21/km² (54/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.60% White, 4.77% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.53% from other races, and 0.71% from two or more races. 1.19% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 13,015 households out of which 33.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.90% are married couples living together, 12.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.60% are non-families. 22.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.40% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the county the population is spread out with 24.80% under the age of 18, 8.10% from 18 to 24, 30.30% from 25 to 44, 24.30% from 45 to 64, and 12.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 93.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $39,946, and the median income for a family is $45,647. Males have a median income of $35,774 versus $24,298 for females. The per capita income for the county is $19,170. 10.60% of the population and 8.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.60% are under the age of 18 and 11.70% are 65 or older.
