Clark County, Kansas

Clark County is a county located in the U.S. State of Kansas. As of 2000, the population is 2,390. The county seat is at Ashland.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,531 km² (977 mi²). 2,524 km² (975 mi²) of it is land and 7 km² (3 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.26% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,390 people, 979 households, and 676 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (2/mi²). There are 1,111 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.77% White, 0.25% African American, 1.13% Native American, 0.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.88% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 4.02% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 979 households out of which 30.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.30% are married couples living together, 6.20% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.90% are non-families. 29.60% of all households are made up of individuals and 17.00% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.39 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the county the population is spread out with 26.60% under the age of 18, 4.90% from 18 to 24, 23.10% from 25 to 44, 23.60% from 45 to 64, and 21.80% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 95.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $33,857, and the median income for a family is $40,521. Males have a median income of $27,321 versus $20,833 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,795. 12.70% of the population and 11.30% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 18.00% are under the age of 18 and 10.20% are 65 or older.
