Church Hill, Tennessee

Church Hill is a city located in Hawkins County, Tennessee. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 5,916.

Geography Church Hill is located at 36°31'15" North, 82°43'32" West (36.520845, -82.725472)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 24.3 km² (9.4 mi²). 23.0 km² (8.9 mi²) of it is land and 1.3 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.23% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,916 people, 2,482 households, and 1,772 families residing in the city. The population density is 256.9/km² (665.8/mi²). There are 2,709 housing units at an average density of 117.7/km² (304.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.95% White, 1.30% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.07% from other races, and 0.34% from two or more races. 0.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 2,482 households out of which 29.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.5% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% are non-families. 25.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.34 and the average family size is 2.78.

In the city the population is spread out with 21.4% under the age of 18, 6.5% from 18 to 24, 30.2% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 89.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $36,563, and the median income for a family is $43,423. Males have a median income of $32,305 versus $25,010 for females. The per capita income for the city is $19,656. 12.0% of the population and 10.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 16.2% are under the age of 18 and 10.5% are 65 or older.
