Christoffer "Chris" Carstanjen (Kris-TOFF-fer Kar-STAN-yen), computer research specialist (1967 - 2001). He died at age 33 in the crash of United Flight 175 in the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack. He was a computer research specialist for the Office of Information Technologies (OIT) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He was a resident of Turners Falls, Massachusetts, and had received a bachelor's degree from University Without Walls at UMass in 2000. Carstanjen had previously been employed at Northfield Mount Hermon School since 1996. Since November 2000, he was OIT liaison to the College of Humanities and Fine Arts (HFA), providing support and consultation to the College's departments in all aspects of OIT services.
