Apologist

Redirected from Christian apologist

An Apologist is someone who defends an idea, action, or belief that may be unpopular with the general public or mainstream society. The term comes from the Greek word "apologia", meaning a defense in argument -- not from the modern English sense of the word "apology", meaning a plea for forgiveness

A Christian apologist may be more generally anyone who rationally or philosophically defends the Christian religion (in contrast to some Christians who hold that rational justification is misguided, and faith is paramount).

Apologists are sometimes characterized as being deceptive, or "white washing" their cause by focusing on the good, while playing down the bad (though the bad is usually already common knowledge).

Common causes that have created many apologists include unpopular wars, controversial foreign policy decisions, politicians, and religous doctrines.
