Chris Phoenix is a co-moderator of the sci.nanotech newsgroup. He has been a regular attendee of Foresight Institute conferences and gatherings for many years. He has studied nanotechnology with K. Eric Drexler, when Drexler gave a course on the subject at Stanford University.
