Chiquitos

Chuiquitos The region of the rain savannas in the eastern Bolivia. The name Chiquitos means little in spanish, and was choosen by the spanish Conquistadores, when they found the small doors of the indian huts. Around 20 ethnies live in the Chuiquitos region. A special feature are the former Jesuit and Franciscan settlements, utopian villages based on the teaching of cathecism and religious related activities (baroque music, handicrafts, agriculture) of the 18th century. 6 churches still remain in the zone and were inscribed in 1991 in the Unesco World Heritage List.
