Chilean Peso

The chilean peso is the currency of Chile. The symbol used locally for it is the $ (the US dollar is written US$). It used to be divided in 100 centavos up until the early 1980s. It exists in denominations of 500, 1000, 2000, 5000, 10000 and 20000. Coins of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 exist (the last one is not yet in circulation). As of January 2002, a US dollar is worth approximately 700 pesos.
