Chardon is known for its annual Maple Festival[?] which celebrates the maple syrup industry in the area. Chardon is home to a part of the Holden Arboretum[?], the nations largest arboretum[?], and has an active performance art community including work done by the Geauga Theater Guild[?], housed in the renovated Geauga theater building. Local lore includes stories of the melonheads[?] who lived down by the river, the 1995 State Division 2 high school football championship win and a currently award-winning Science Olimpiad[?] team.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 11.9 km² (4.6 mi²). 11.9 km² (4.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.22% is water.
Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 5,156 people, 2,147 households, and 1,344 families residing in the village. The population density is 432.8/km² (1,120.1/mi²). There are 2,271 housing units at an average density of 190.6/km² (493.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.77% White, 0.43% African American, 0.02% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 1.22% from two or more races. 0.47% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 2,147 households out of which 30.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.7% are married couples living together, 9.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.4% are non-families. 32.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 3.02.
In the village the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 6.9% from 18 to 24, 29.9% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.8% who are 65 years of age or older.
