Geography Chamisal is located at 36°9'58" North, 105°44'39" West (36.166127, -105.744224)¹.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.3 km² (1.6 mi²). 4.3 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 301 people, 121 households, and 79 families residing in the town. The population density is 70.4/km² (182.6/mi²). There are 156 housing units at an average density of 36.5/km² (94.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 16.28% White, 0.33% African American, 0.66% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.33% Pacific Islander, 76.08% from other races, and 6.31% from two or more races. 92.03% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 121 households out of which 26.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.6% are married couples living together, 11.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.9% are non-families. 31.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.49 and the average family size is 3.18.
