Central Hancock, Maine

Central Hancock is an unorganized territory located in Hancock County, Maine. As of the 2000 census, the unorganized territory had a total population of 138.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the unorganized territory has a total area of 41.6 km² (16.1 mi²). 39.4 km² (15.2 mi²) of it is land and 2.2 km² (0.9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.29% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 138 people, 61 households, and 35 families residing in the unorganized territory. The population density is 3.5/km² (9.1/mi²). There are 102 housing units at an average density of 2.6/km² (6.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the unorganized territory is 94.93% White, 0.00% African American, 1.45% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 3.62% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 61 households out of which 29.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.1% are married couples living together, 14.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 42.6% are non-families. 31.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average family size is 2.89.

In the unorganized territory the population is spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 126.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 110.0 males.

The median income for a household in the unorganized territory is $25,750, and the median income for a family is $33,958. Males have a median income of $26,429 versus $21,591 for females. The per capita income for the unorganized territory is $12,286. 20.7% of the population and 15.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.3% are under the age of 18 and 33.3% are 65 or older.
