Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 644 people, 251 households, and 161 families residing in the city. The population density is 621.6/km² (1,621.4/mi²). There are 309 housing units at an average density of 298.3/km² (778.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 98.91% White, 0.16% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 0.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 251 households out of which 33.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.0% are married couples living together, 12.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 35.5% are non-families. 29.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older.
