Casualty

A casualty is a victim of an accident, injury or trauma. The Emergency room of a hospital is also known as the casualty department for this reason. In New Zealand this is usually called the Accident and Emergency (A&E) ward.

See Emergency room.

Casualties are people who have been killed in a war or disaster. The number of casualties is often quoted by the media in these situations.

Casualty is also the name of a long-running UK television series, set in such a department.
