Castorland, New York

Castorland is a village located in Lewis County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 306.

Geography Castorland is located at 43°53'15" North, 75°30'50" West (43.887379, -75.514002)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.7 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 306 people, 115 households, and 74 families residing in the village. The population density is 422.0/km² (1,084.5/mi²). There are 136 housing units at an average density of 187.5/km² (482.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 97.06% White, 0.65% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.33% Asian, 0.33% Pacific Islander, 0.65% from other races, and 0.98% from two or more races. 1.31% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 115 households out of which 28.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.3% are married couples living together, 3.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.8% are non-families. 26.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.56 and the average family size is 3.23.

In the village the population is spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 28.1% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 91.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $33,125, and the median income for a family is $45,625. Males have a median income of $35,714 versus $16,806 for females. The per capita income for the village is $12,101. 13.3% of the population and 1.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.7% are under the age of 18 and 10.0% are 65 or older.
