Cass County, Missouri

Cass County is a county located in the U.S. State of Missouri. As of 2000, the population is 82,092. Its county seat is Harrisonville6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,820 km² (703 mi²). 1,810 km² (699 mi²) of it is land and 10 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.52% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 82,092 people, 30,168 households, and 22,988 families residing in the county. The population density is 45/km² (117/mi²). There are 31,677 housing units at an average density of 18/km² (45/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.62% White, 1.42% African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.50% from other races, and 1.35% from two or more races. 2.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 30,168 households out of which 38.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.60% are married couples living together, 9.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.80% are non-families. 20.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.69 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the county the population is spread out with 28.40% under the age of 18, 7.30% from 18 to 24, 30.20% from 25 to 44, 22.30% from 45 to 64, and 11.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 95.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.90 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $49,562, and the median income for a family is $55,258. Males have a median income of $39,001 versus $26,174 for females. The per capita income for the county is $21,073. 5.80% of the population and 4.20% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 7.00% are under the age of 18 and 5.20% are 65 or older.
