Cashiers is a unincorporated community located in Jackson County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the community had a total population of 196.

Geography Cashiers is located at 35°6'43" North, 83°5'58" West (35.111978, -83.099488)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the community has a total area of 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²). 2.8 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 196 people, 96 households, and 48 families residing in the community. The population density is 70.1/km² (182.0/mi²). There are 182 housing units at an average density of 65.1/km² (169.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the community is 98.98% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.02% from two or more races. 0.51% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 96 households out of which 15.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.9% are married couples living together, 3.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 49.0% are non-families. 39.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.04 and the average family size is 2.76.

In the community, the population is spread out with 14.3% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 24.0% from 25 to 44, 36.7% from 45 to 64, and 18.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 49 years. For every 100 females there are 94.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the community is $37,500, and the median income for a family is $51,458. Males have a median income of $26,339 versus $23,750 for females. The per capita income for the town is $22,845. 4.2% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 0.0% are under the age of 18 and 15.2% are 65 or older.
