Carrollton is a town located in Pickens County, Alabama. As of the 2000 census, the population of the town is 987. The city is the county seat of Pickens County6.

Geography Carrollton is located at 33°15'39" North, 88°5'40" West (33.260858, -88.094452)1.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.4 km² (2.1 mi²). 5.3 km² (2.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.96% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 987 people, 384 households, and 279 families residing in the town. The population density is 185.0/km² (479.1/mi²). There are 437 housing units at an average density of 81.9/km² (212.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 53.39% White, 44.58% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.93% from two or more races. 0.41% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 384 households out of which 35.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.1% are married couples living together, 28.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.3% are non-families. 25.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 14.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.57 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the town the population is spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 10.5% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 20.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 77.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 65.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $24,318, and the median income for a family is $29,612. Males have a median income of $30,833 versus $18,333 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,153. 38.5% of the population and 31.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 56.9% are under the age of 18 and 26.1% are 65 or older.
