Carroll County, Missouri

Carroll County is a county located in the U.S. State of Missouri. As of 2000, the population is 10,285. Its county seat is Carrollton6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,819 km² (702 mi²). 1,799 km² (695 mi²) of it is land and 20 km² (8 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.08% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 10,285 people, 4,169 households, and 2,880 families residing in the county. The population density is 6/km² (15/mi²). There are 4,897 housing units at an average density of 3/km² (7/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.95% White, 1.72% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.14% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. 0.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 4,169 households out of which 30.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.40% are married couples living together, 8.00% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.90% are non-families. 27.80% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 2.96.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.20% under the age of 18, 7.40% from 18 to 24, 24.50% from 25 to 44, 22.90% from 45 to 64, and 20.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 94.20 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.40 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $30,643, and the median income for a family is $36,773. Males have a median income of $26,135 versus $17,468 for females. The per capita income for the county is $15,522. 13.70% of the population and 9.70% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 17.00% are under the age of 18 and 12.80% are 65 or older.
