Carroll County is a county located in the U.S. State of Georgia. As of 2000, the population is 87,268. The county's county seat is Carrollton, Georgia6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,305 km² (504 mi²). 1,292 km² (499 mi²) of it is land and 13 km² (5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.97% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 87,268 people, 31,568 households, and 23,013 families residing in the county. The population density is 68/km² (175/mi²). There are 34,067 housing units at an average density of 26/km² (68/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 80.52% White, 16.32% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.62% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.12% from other races, and 1.14% from two or more races. 2.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 31,568 households out of which 35.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.30% are married couples living together, 12.30% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.10% are non-families. 21.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.60% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.66 and the average family size is 3.09.

In the county the population is spread out with 25.90% under the age of 18, 12.90% from 18 to 24, 29.90% from 25 to 44, 21.20% from 45 to 64, and 10.00% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 95.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 91.50 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $38,799, and the median income for a family is $44,642. Males have a median income of $33,102 versus $22,538 for females. The per capita income for the county is $17,656. 13.70% of the population and 10.00% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 15.40% are under the age of 18 and 16.00% are 65 or older.
