Carlsbad is the traditional English name for the city and spa town Karlovy Vary in the western part of the Czech Republic. The city is named after Charles IV, who visited the place in the 1370s. It is historically famous for its warm wells (73° C) and warmed-up river Teplá[?], it is nowadays maybe more well known for the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. In German and Swedish, the city's name is spelled Karlsbad.
