Cardinal Mazarin

Jules Mazarin, born Giulio Mazarini, but best known as Cardinal Mazarin (1602 - 1661) continued the work of Cardinal Richelieu as principal minister of the French monarchy (1642 - 1661). Although the 5-year-old Louis XIV became king in 1643, Mazarin acted as the ruler of France until his death, in 1661.
