Burnsville is a town located in Tishomingo County, Mississippi. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,034.

Geography Burnsville is located at 34°50'19" North, 88°18'51" West (34.838564, -88.314098)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 12.4 km² (4.8 mi²). 12.3 km² (4.8 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.42% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,034 people, 412 households, and 285 families residing in the town. The population density is 84.0/km² (217.6/mi²). There are 465 housing units at an average density of 37.8/km² (97.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 98.07% White, 0.00% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.55% from two or more races. 1.26% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 412 households out of which 35.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% are married couples living together, 17.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% are non-families. 29.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.51 and the average family size is 3.06.

In the town the population is spread out with 29.7% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 23.9% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 82.7 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $20,083, and the median income for a family is $27,679. Males have a median income of $28,523 versus $18,333 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,359. 27.4% of the population and 23.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 34.8% are under the age of 18 and 27.9% are 65 or older.
