Geography Buffalo is located at 44°20'51" North, 106°42'4" West (44.347479, -106.701222)¹.

Demographics As of the census¹ of 2000, there are 3,900 people, 1,718 households, and 1,042 families residing in the city. The population density is 426.6/km² (1,104.8/mi²). There are 1,842 housing units at an average density of 201.5/km² (521.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.46% White, 0.10% African American, 0.82% Native American, 0.05% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.54% from other races, and 2.03% from two or more races. 1.82% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,718 households out of which 26.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% are married couples living together, 8.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 39.3% are non-families. 35.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.88.
