Brookwood Cemetery

Brookwood Cemetery (aka the London Necropolis) was set up by the London Necropolis Company in the 1850s to house London's dead, since the capital was finding it increasingly difficult to locate the increasing population, both of living and dead. By 1854 it was the largest cemetery in the world.

It was situated close to Woking, Surrey, and was accessible only by rail from a special cemetary station next to Waterloo. This station was demolished after suffering bomb damage during World War Two.

A military cemetary was added in 1917 and contains some of the dead from World War One and World War Two. A military memorial was built in 1958.
