Bronson is a town located in Levy County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 964. It is the county seat of Levy County6.

Geography Bronson is located at 29°26'56" North, 82°38'11" West (29.448784, -82.636314)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 10.5 km² (4.0 mi²). 10.2 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.23% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 964 people, 370 households, and 256 families residing in the town. The population density is 94.2/km² (244.1/mi²). There are 431 housing units at an average density of 42.1/km² (109.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 66.39% White, 29.15% African American, 1.45% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.07% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races. 8.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 370 households out of which 34.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.7% are married couples living together, 22.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% are non-families. 25.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 11.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.16.

In the town the population is spread out with 29.1% under the age of 18, 12.0% from 18 to 24, 24.3% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 32 years. For every 100 females there are 81.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 76.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $26,944, and the median income for a family is $28,462. Males have a median income of $27,969 versus $20,385 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,532. 27.2% of the population and 21.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 36.5% are under the age of 18 and 21.4% are 65 or older.
