Bright Eyes is an extremely emotional and confessional band fronted by
Conor Oberst[?], a singer-songwriter from Nebraska. His music is widely classified as
emo. Conor Oberst is the only constant member of Bright Eyes, and the other musicians in the band change frequently. His vocal style and lyrics are often considered to be desperate, on the verge of tears, and perhaps suicidal. Conor Oberst has stated that he feels what he sings, his lyrics are writings, and not necessarily stories of his life. One song consists of his mother drowning his brother in a bathtub, an event Conor Oberst assures us is fictional. The emotive power in his music requires such tragic lyrics.
Conor Oberst was also the 14-year old singer and guitarist of Commander Venus[?], an indie rock band, in 1994. Conor Oberst is also a guitarist and singer for the band Desaparecidos[?]. The music and lyrics of Desaparecidos differs greatly from Bright Eyes, fitting more to rock music than emo. The lyrics are generally social commentary on the state of affairs in America.
