Bowling Green, Kentucky

Bowling Green is a city located in Warren County, Kentucky. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 49,296. It is the county seat of Warren County6.

Geography Bowling Green is located at 36°58'54" North, 86°26'40" West (36.981657, -86.444423)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 92.1 km² (35.6 mi²). 91.7 km² (35.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.45% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 49,296 people, 19,277 households, and 10,698 families residing in the city. The population density is 537.5/km² (1,392.3/mi²). There are 21,290 housing units at an average density of 232.1/km² (601.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 80.82% White, 12.71% African American, 0.23% Native American, 1.95% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 2.16% from other races, and 2.01% from two or more races. 4.08% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 19,277 households out of which 26.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 38.5% are married couples living together, 13.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 44.5% are non-families. 33.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.91.

In the city the population is spread out with 20.2% under the age of 18, 23.5% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 17.5% from 45 to 64, and 12.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 93.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 90.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $29,047, and the median income for a family is $40,320. Males have a median income of $30,244 versus $22,606 for females. The per capita income for the city is $17,621. 21.8% of the population and 15.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 25.1% are under the age of 18 and 15.0% are 65 or older.
