Boundary County, Idaho

Boundary County is a county located in the U.S. State of Idaho. As of 2000, the population is 9,871. The county's county seat is Bonners Ferry, Idaho6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,311 km² (1,278 mi²). 3,286 km² (1,269 mi²) of it is land and 24 km² (9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.74% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 9,871 people, 3,707 households, and 2,698 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km² (8/mi²). There are 4,095 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (3/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.24% White, 0.16% African American, 2.02% Native American, 0.58% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.86% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. 3.39% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,707 households out of which 34.10% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.40% are married couples living together, 7.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.20% are non-families. 23.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the county the population is spread out with 29.20% under the age of 18, 6.90% from 18 to 24, 24.40% from 25 to 44, 26.20% from 45 to 64, and 13.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 101.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.60 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $31,250, and the median income for a family is $36,440. Males have a median income of $31,209 versus $18,682 for females. The per capita income for the county is $14,636. 15.70% of the population and 11.50% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 19.50% are under the age of 18 and 11.40% are 65 or older.
