Boonton Township is a township located in Morris County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 4,287.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 22.2 km² (8.6 mi²). 21.8 km² (8.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.4 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.86% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 4,287 people, 1,476 households, and 1,157 families residing in the township. The population density is 196.6/km² (508.9/mi²). There are 1,510 housing units at an average density of 69.2/km² (179.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 93.00% White, 1.19% African American, 0.05% Native American, 4.08% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.63% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. 2.15% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,476 households out of which 36.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.1% are married couples living together, 5.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.6% are non-families. 17.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.6% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.78 and the average family size is 3.18.

In the township the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 27.0% from 25 to 44, 28.4% from 45 to 64, and 14.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 42 years. For every 100 females there are 98.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.3 males.

The median income for a household in the township is $91,753, and the median income for a family is $102,944. Males have a median income of $77,133 versus $46,302 for females. The per capita income for the township is $45,014. 1.3% of the population and 0.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 0.5% are under the age of 18 and 2.2% are 65 or older.
