Boone County, Kentucky

Boone County is a county located in the U.S. State of Kentucky. As of 2000, the population is 85,991. Its county seat is Burlington, Kentucky6.

Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 666 km² (257 mi²). 638 km² (246 mi²) of it is land and 28 km² (11 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.16% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 85,991 people, 31,258 households, and 23,443 families residing in the county. The population density is 135/km² (349/mi²). There are 33,351 housing units at an average density of 52/km² (135/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 95.15% White, 1.52% African American, 0.23% Native American, 1.29% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.75% from other races, and 1.03% from two or more races. 1.98% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 31,258 households out of which 39.80% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.60% are married couples living together, 9.80% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.00% are non-families. 20.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.73 and the average family size is 3.17.

In the county the population is spread out with 28.70% under the age of 18, 8.50% from 18 to 24, 33.50% from 25 to 44, 21.30% from 45 to 64, and 8.10% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 97.70 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.70 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $53,593, and the median income for a family is $61,114. Males have a median income of $42,105 versus $27,414 for females. The per capita income for the county is $23,535. 5.60% of the population and 4.40% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 6.40% are under the age of 18 and 7.70% are 65 or older.
