Bonita Springs is a city located in Lee County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 32,797.

Geography Bonita Springs is located at 26°20'59" North, 81°47'27" West (26.349654, -81.790937)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 106.2 km² (41.0 mi²). 91.4 km² (35.3 mi²) of it is land and 14.8 km² (5.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 13.95% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 32,797 people, 14,807 households, and 10,276 families residing in the city. The population density is 358.8/km² (929.4/mi²). There are 23,329 housing units at an average density of 255.2/km² (661.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 89.51% White, 0.36% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.38% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 7.87% from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. 17.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 14,807 households out of which 14.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.4% are married couples living together, 4.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% are non-families. 24.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.21 and the average family size is 2.54.

In the city the population is spread out with 13.9% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 19.8% from 25 to 44, 28.8% from 45 to 64, and 31.7% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 54 years. For every 100 females there are 104.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 103.9 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $46,603, and the median income for a family is $53,436. Males have a median income of $31,227 versus $25,358 for females. The per capita income for the city is $37,958. 6.7% of the population and 3.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 10.9% are under the age of 18 and 3.1% are 65 or older.
