Boiling Spring Lakes is a city located in Brunswick County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,972.

Geography Boiling Spring Lakes is located at 34°2'19" North, 78°3'14" West (34.038495, -78.053898)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 60.4 km² (23.3 mi²). 58.5 km² (22.6 mi²) of it is land and 1.9 km² (0.7 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 3.09% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 2,972 people, 1,208 households, and 941 families residing in the city. The population density is 50.8/km² (131.5/mi²). There are 1,409 housing units at an average density of 24.1/km² (62.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 94.55% White, 3.26% African American, 0.67% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 1.08% from two or more races. 0.61% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,208 households out of which 28.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.6% are married couples living together, 9.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.1% are non-families. 17.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.46 and the average family size is 2.73.

In the city the population is spread out with 22.0% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 27.4% from 45 to 64, and 15.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 97.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $37,165, and the median income for a family is $40,810. Males have a median income of $31,992 versus $21,667 for females. The per capita income for the city is $18,079. 9.5% of the population and 8.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 11.8% are under the age of 18 and 7.6% are 65 or older.
