Boarding school

A boarding school is a self contained educational institution where students not only study but also live.

Boarding schools and their surrounding settings and situations have become almost a genre in (mostly) British literature, a genre with its own identifiable conventions.

See Harry Potter for a relatively recent example, and Jennings for an earlier example of the genre.
