Aftermouth of the Battle of Sedgemoor in the Monmouth Rebellion.
James II of England sent the infamous Judge Jeffreys to round up and try the defeated supporters of the rebel James, Duke of Monmouth. About 1300 people were found guilty, many being transported abroard, while some suffered drawing and quartering.
So ruthlessness of the event resuted in the name of the "Bloody Assizes". They are still remembered in the South West of England.
