In
contract bridge the
black suits are spades and clubs,
because most
Anglo-American playing cards print these suit symbols
in black.
There is nothing special about these two suits as a combination in
bridge, but it is often convenient to be able to talk about suit
combinations in this way.
Other games such as
Canasta may give special functions to
black cards or red cards.
