Black Elk

A famous Oglala Sioux holy man.

Participated in the Battle of Little Big Horn.

Revealed a number of sacred Sioux rituals to western people for publication.

Converted to Catholicism in 1904 after his Catholic wife's death, taking the name Nicholas Black Elk.

Died in the latter part of August 1950.
