Bill Gothard

Bill Gothard (born November 2, 1934) is a Christian conference speaker. His conferences focus on "Basic Youth Conflicts". His solution is a conservative, authoritarian view of family life.

Although never married and without children, Gothard provides strong advice about family relationships. Wives are to submit to their husbands. Children are not to marry without their parents' approval. Particularly, daughters are to receive their father's blessing before marrying.

Much of Gothard's teaching is consistent with Evangelical Biblical interpretation. However, his application of this teaching is rather inflexible. For that reason, it is appealing to those who are looking for straightforward solutions to difficult problems.

Bill Gothard strongly criticizes contemporary Christian music, claiming that rock music is inherently evil, and has been criticized in return by musicians such as Steve Taylor.
