Birla Institute of Technology and Science

Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Rajasthan, India (popularly known as 'BITS Pilani') is one of the most prestigious tech schools of India (ranked 5th by India Today). It was founded by Shri Ghanshyam Das Birla, patriarch of the Birla family, in 1902. BITS was successful enough in Indianizing many of those great standards from the long standing alliance with MIT, Cambridge.

BITS Pilani is the pioneer of university-industry linkage program in India. It is also setting new standards in distance learning programs with its virtual university going online.

Former BITSians

BITS Pilani has established an international center in Dubai in collaboration with Al Ghurair University, Dubai, UAE.

BITS also plans to open a new center in Goa, India which is likely to start offering courses in 2004.
