Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 298.9 km² (115.4 mi²). 294.8 km² (113.8 mi²) of it is land and 4.0 km² (1.6 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.35% water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 1,270 people, 578 households, and 362 families residing in the township. The population density is 4.3/km² (11.2/mi²). There are 946 housing units at an average density of 3.2/km² (8.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 97.24% White, 0.39% African American, 0.71% Native American, 0.31% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. 0.16% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 578 households out of which 22.8% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.4% are married couples living together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.2% are non-families. 34.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 19.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.20 and the average family size is 2.79.
