Date of birth unknown. Breton origin. He died c 1130. He is thought to be the elder brother of Thierry of Chartres[?].
He is recorded at the cathedral school of Chartres before 1117 and was chancellor (until 1124).
Most of what we know about his work is through the writings of John of Salisbury and William of Conches[?].
