Beech Bottom, West Virginia

Beech Bottom is a village located in Brooke County, West Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 606.

Geography Beech Bottom is located at 40°13'27" North, 80°39'8" West (40.224276, -80.652181)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.2 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 606 people, 226 households, and 153 families residing in the village. The population density is 278.5/km² (721.6/mi²). There are 240 housing units at an average density of 110.3/km² (285.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village is 99.17% White, 0.00% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.66% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 226 households out of which 34.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.3% are married couples living together, 16.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 32.3% are non-families. 30.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.32 and the average family size is 2.85.

In the village the population is spread out with 20.5% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 25.9% from 25 to 44, 19.6% from 45 to 64, and 26.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 43 years. For every 100 females there are 83.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 76.6 males.

The median income for a household in the village is $33,393, and the median income for a family is $38,281. Males have a median income of $30,455 versus $20,875 for females. The per capita income for the village is $15,455. 11.2% of the population and 12.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 14.7% are under the age of 18 and 11.2% are 65 or older.
