Bee Ridge is a town located in Sarasota County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 8,744.

Geography Bee Ridge is located at 27°17'20" North, 82°28'15" West (27.288834, -82.470960)1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 10.1 km² (3.9 mi²). 10.1 km² (3.9 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics As of the census of 2000, there are 8,744 people, 3,905 households, and 2,456 families residing in the town. The population density is 863.4/km² (2,238.0/mi²). There are 4,108 housing units at an average density of 405.7/km² (1,051.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.30% White, 0.78% African American, 0.21% Native American, 0.67% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.47% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 2.92% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 3,905 households out of which 21.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.5% are married couples living together, 7.6% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.1% are non-families. 32.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 22.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.18 and the average family size is 2.73.

In the town the population is spread out with 18.5% under the age of 18, 3.9% from 18 to 24, 19.3% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 33.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 51 years. For every 100 females there are 80.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 75.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $47,200, and the median income for a family is $56,386. Males have a median income of $36,215 versus $25,981 for females. The per capita income for the town is $26,716. 5.5% of the population and 3.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 4.3% are under the age of 18 and 4.5% are 65 or older.
