Beauregard Parish, Louisiana

Beauregard Parish is a parish located in the U.S. State of Louisiana. As of 2000, the population is 32,986.

Geography The parish has a total area of 3,020 km2 (1,166 mi2). 3,005 km2 (1,160 mi2) of it is land and 15 km2 (6 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 0.51% water.

Demographics As of 2000, there are 32,986 people, 12,104 households, and 9,078 families residing in the parish. The population density is 11/km2 (28/mi2). There are 14,501 housing units at an average density of 5 persons/km2 (12 persons/mi2). The racial makeup of the parish is 84.25% White, 12.92% African American, 0.66% Native American, 0.60% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.30% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. 1.42% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 12,104 households out of which 36.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.60% are married couples living together, 10.90% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 25.00% are non-families. 22.20% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 and the average family size is 3.07.

In the parish the population is spread out with 27.50% under the age of 18, 8.60% from 18 to 24, 28.70% from 25 to 44, 23.30% from 45 to 64, and 11.90% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 100.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 98.90 males.

The median income for a household in the parish is $32,582, and the median income for a family is $37,886. Males have a median income of $35,268 versus $19,639 for females. The per capita income for the parish is $15,514. 15.60% of the population and 13.00% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 19.50% are under the age of 18 and 15.50% are 65 or older.
