Battle of Fort Steadman

Union army under general grant is attacked in a pre-dawn confederate assault on fort steadman. 45000 rebel troops drive back three entire corp under hancock warren and burnsides and inflicting 20000 casualties. after 5 hours union forces counter attack gets repulsed with heavy losses. grant mad at his commanders storm out of tent and orders a general withdraw back across the james river. lee earns a victory and saves petersburg.
